4 Step Guide to Fibre Installation
If you are ready to take the next step toward uninterrupted, super-fast internet but don’t know how the fibre installation process works, we’re here to help. Below is an easy, step-by-step guide on how the fibre installation works and what you will need.
Step 1 – Find Out If Fibre Has Been Installed In Your Area
The biggest difference between fibre and more common internet connections is the use of glass fibre optic cables. This means that these cables need to be installed in your area before you can get fibre connectivity installed to your home. This is done by a Network Infrastructure Provider (NIP) or a Fibre Network Operator (FNO). Put simply, NIPS/FNO’s are companies that own, operate and sell open access to fibre across its infrastructure.
To find out if fibre has been installed in your area, simply enter your address into the address bar on our Find My Fibre coverage page and we will tell you if your area is covered.
Unlike other methods of internet service, you will not need a home telephone line or advanced equipment; if you’ve got fibre coverage in your area, you are ready to go!
Step 2 – Find an ISP and Package That Works for You
Before selecting an ISP it is important to understand what an Internet Service Provider or “ISP” is. An ISP is a company (such as MWEB or Vox) that will offer internet access for a monthly fee and will have several fibre packages available depending on the speed of internet that you want and the quantity of Mega Bits per second (Mbps) you need to upload/download per month.
Find My Fibre has made this next step easy. Instead of finding an ISP and having to discover what packages they are offering yourself, Find My Fibre provides a selection of different packages from the ISPs in your area so that you can choose the best fibre package that suits your budget and needs. On the page indicating that there is fibre in your area there will be a pop-up, click on “Order Now” and we will take you straight to the best deals and packages on offer.
Step 3 – Making a Selection
Even with all the best options at your fingertips, it can still be a daunting task to make a choice. When making a selection, keep in mind that the way in which you intend to use the internet and the number of people in the household using it at any given time. These factors will influence the type of package that you will select. Lower numbers of users and devices with less internet intensive applications such as emails will require less Mega Bits per second (Mbps) and lower speeds and conversely higher numbers of users and devices with more internet intensive applications such as live streaming, Skype calls, and downloading media will require more Mbps
Find My Fibre has a team of experts to assist with any questions you may have in making a selection. Request a call back and they will call you to help.
Step 4 – Place Your Order
Once you have selected your package and viewed the details of it, simply order it through the Find My Fibre website by clicking on “Order Now” and fill out your details. Within 1-2 hours, our expert customer service team will contact you, request any further details or documents and the order will be placed with the ISP. Once the fibre order is ready, you will be notified, and the fibre supplier will contact you directly to arrange a suitable date and time to carry out the installation. The turnaround times vary, depending on your chosen supplier (Typically 2 – 4 weeks). Once your home fibre is installed your Wi-Fi router will be connected and set up so that all the devices in your home can connect wirelessly to the Internet. The router will be easy to use (plug and play) as they are pre-configured and ready to be used to access your fibre.
And just like that you have the convenience of fast internet at your fingertips. Whether streaming movies, playing games or speaking with friends and family online, don’t let slow internet stand in your way.
